Our children's hospice has been named in honour of one of our courageous young clients (Emily) who is battling a life-limiting illness. Emily and her family represent hundreds of children and families who daily face the challenges and uncertanties of dealing with terminal illness.
The special needs of the families and children we have had the privilege of journeying with and supporting over the past 17 years through our community hospice programs, has led us to establishing Emily's House, the first Pediatric Palliative Care Hospice in Toronto, and 6th in Canada.
Our 10 bed Hospice is an expansion of our current community hospice programs and is endorsed by many pediatric palliative service providers, including SickKids Hospital, who agree families need increased care options. Emily's House offers comfortable, medically supervised, child-friendly place with personalized family centred programs delivered through professional staff and trained volunteers.
We believe whether a life is measured in days, weeks, months, or even years, children living with a life-limiting diagnosis deserve the opportunity to learn, play, develop and grow…to just be kids.
Emily's House is committed to optimizing the quality of the lives of children and their families, through the provision of integrated respite and pediatric palliative care, in a home like setting. Care will be aligned with the National Pediatric Palliative Care Norms of Practice.
Emily's House will help families make memories out of minutes and miracles out of days.
