Ava’s Christmas Fund 2021
Published on: November 9, 2021
Thank you for thinking of our children and families as Christmas, and the holiday gift-giving season approaches! Although Emily’s House will not be holding our traditional, in-person Emily’s House Family Holiday party (for a second year in a row due to COVID), alternate plans are in the works. The team is anticipating another Pop-up Toy / Gift Store in the Boardroom for our hospice client families by pre-booked appointment, and/or to arrange “Curb-side” Deliveries to client families (with help from our awesome roster of volunteers).
Of course, donations of funds are always preferred, so that they can be directed to where the need is greatest in support of PAC and Emily’s House families.
For elves who prefer to donate something tangible, here is your chance! Please note that although we do not have a gift registry this year, we do have some Wish List recommendations to bring some extra, needed joy into hearts and homes this season….
“The 2021 Wish List” for Christmas, Chanukah, and seasonal celebrations during COVID:
♦ Snoezelen Room upgrades/maintenance (approximately $5,000 funding needed in total). The Emily’s House Snoezelen Room is both a soothing and stimulating environment used for therapeutic play and recreation. It is specially designed to deliver stimuli to various senses, using lighting effects, colour, sounds, and music. While interacting with a therapist, staff person or volunteer, children explore tactile senses, and engage in a “wider world” than otherwise accessible in their everyday experiences.
♦ Chromebooks and tablets continue to be a priority – to enable clients to participate in virtual programs, and to assist programming delivery to clients.
♦ Christmas “hampers” for families receiving hospice care (i.e., will include grocery gift cards for festive seasonal meals and gifts for 25 families with greatest needs). Sponsor one family for approximately $200-$250.
♦ Gift Cards: Amazon; Clothing Stores (Old Navy, SportChek, H&M); Gaming (Fortnite, Sony, Xbox, Nintendo eShop, Roblox); Bell/Rogers/Telus and Fido data cards and long-distance calling. Grocery Cards are needed year-round.
♦ Transportation: gas cards and Presto cards for families for transportation and outings
♦ Wipes, baby/toddler toiletries
- If you prefer to purchase an actual gift, please do not gift wrap. Keep in original packaging so parents can choose the right gifts for their children.
Ideas from our Recreation Masters include:
♦ Remote control cars/trucks/vehicles
♦ Hot Wheels track(s)
♦ Plastic bowling pins/balls (preferably big pins)
♦ Kid-sized indoor basketball net/balls
♦ Any kind of indoor kids’ sports sets (Golf, hockey, etc.)
♦ Indoor beanbag toss game, or indoor games that involves throwing something at something
♦ Ring toss and other arcade games
♦ Foam darts and dartboard
♦ Games like Bop It, Simon, HedBanz
♦ Giant foam building blocks: on Amazon – ECR4Kids Softzone foam building blocks or Soozier Soft play blocks
♦ Indoor kids tent/fort
Or simply, give the gift of hospice by donating on our website. If unspecified, your donation will be directed where funding is needed most.
Please deliver seasonal donations by December 10th so that there is time for our Elves to coordinate gift pickups / deliveries.
